AWeb 3.2 Upgrade ARexx Script (4k, 12 July 1998)

This ARexx script will help determine which version of the AWeb 3.2 patch file is required to upgrade your installed version of AWeb. Expand this archive to your hard drive (not to RAM:) and start it from within AWeb using the Start ARexx Macro command under the ARexx menu. You must run the script while you are online, and it will give you a link to the correct update file to download from here.

You will need your original AWeb 3.x disks.

New in this version (compared with AWeb 3.1)

• Fixed bugs:
  • Lockups when a window opened while user was scrolling the window.
  • Fixed a few JavaScript incompatibilities.
  • Some forms (especially with file-upload) didn't work.
  • Sometimes cookies weren't set.
  • Proxy wasn't used for secure connections.
  • ... and more.
• Browser windows are now AppWindows.
• Added iconify option.
• Added warning requesters when SSL connection or certificate verification fails.
• Spoofing will now take effect in JavaScript too.
• ... and more.

Updated Danish (Dansk) catalog for AWebCfg (4k, 9 May 1998)

The current catalog has a nasty bug ("never" instead of "always" in the cookie settings).

AWeb 3.1 NetSearch Page (11k, 9 April 1998)

This page will help you to search the numerous pages on the World Wide Web, the only thing you need do is type in the subject of your interest in one of the text-gadgets. Press return or click search and AWeb will connect you to the search engine with the search already in progress. Click on the service names to access their advanced options and special features.

Updates from version 1.5:

• Rewritten in clearer way various important parts of the source code like wordwrap and ANSI management.
• Made HTML parser more SGML compliant.
• Improved table support by managing each table cell as a separate document.
• Added support for hex numeric entities (&#xnn) up to 255 and Win'95 numeric entities and special characters in the range 128-159.
• Added support for <SELECT>, <XMP> and improved <LISTING> one.
• Now text into a <BLOCKQUOTE> (or <BQ>) element is indented.
• In <PRE> mode numeric entities (&#nn) lower than 32 are left as they are.
• Added options SCRIPT and INCLUDE.
• Now when option NOHEADER is used the HTTX version string is not added.
• Improved support for bad html coding.
• And many other things!
• Fixed various little aesthetical bugs and bugs related to bad HTML coding in documents.
• Fixed many little problems with old wordwrap (the more relevant was that if a line didn't contain spaces and ended with an entity, wordwrap didn't work better).
• Numeric entities lower than ASCII 32 weren't converted to spaces.
• In case of bad arguments, false errors messages were displayed.
• Last character of file could be skipped in some cases.
• Various other bugs wiped out!

AWeb-II 3.1 Patch File (680805 bytes, 14 Jan 1998)

Use this patch to update your AWeb-II 3.0 (or 3.0b) program to AWeb-II 3.1.

You must have installed AWeb-II version 3.0 (or 3.0b) previously before you can install this patch.

To install the patch, double-click the "Install-AWeb31" icon.

The installation procedure will need the original disks from the AWeb-II 3.0 (or 3.0b) distribution. After installation, you will have to enter the registration number (found in the distribution) and your name again the first time you run AWeb-II.

The installation procedure will give you the option of making a backup copy of the executables that are going to be changed. You can select a drawer where the existing files will be copied. If the installation fails for some reason, you can restore the previous version by copying the executables back to their original location.

New in this version (compared with AWeb 3.0b)

• Fixed bugs:
  • FTP didn't work with INet-225.
• Added support for JavaScript 1.1.
• Added support for secure connections by use of MiamiSSL.
• Added internal mailer (mailto:).
• Added internal newsreader.
• Added the autosearch feature.
• Added a search engine to the documentation.
• Updated strict HTML mode to support HTML 4.0.
• Added option to configure the keyboard.
• Added option for continuously running transfer animation.

Version 42.76 of layout.gadget has some minor background refresh problems. If your system has this problem, it can be fixed by reverting to version 42.54.

This script enhances the AWeb 3.1 autosearch function. Just by typing a string in the url field you have access to following features:

• normal autosearch on the configured search engine.
• configure a new search engine from an easy to use HTML-GUI!
• you can configure more than one engine to search with at the same time! In this case results will be showed as resizable IFrames in a page.
• name completion: type the name of a company and AWeb will try to access its site in the "standard" form (www.company[.com, or any other domain you have configured]).

Requirements for AWeb-II

• Workbench / Kickstart 3.0, 3.1, or above.
• Approximately 3 MB of free hard disk space for installation of the software, and 5-10 MB of free space for disk caching unless you have a lot of spare RAM.
• At least 2 Megs of RAM. Less than 1 Meg of chip RAM may make image loading difficult or impossible.
• A working TCP/IP stack, either AmiTCP, AS-255, I-Net 225, or other suitable software.
• The installation of appropriate GIF, JPEG, JFIF, 24bit, and other datatypes as required. These may be obtained from Aminet in the util/dtype directory. The current recommended datatypes are:
  • ZGIF version 39.18
  • akJFIF version 43.75
  • akPNG version 43.11
  • For CyberGraphics systems, use the latest V43 picture datatype.
  • AMS archive, including support for .au sound files and improved picture datatype for non-Cybergraphics systems.

Upgrading from Older Versions of AWeb

For users who registered the shareware version of AWeb, it's author Yvon Rozijn (yrozijn@noord.bart.nl) has arranged for registered users of the shareware versions to upgrade to the commercial version 3.0 of AWeb-II for the same fee as existing v2.x commercial customers. Shareware versions are numbered 1.x, starting with 1.3.

Demo Version

AWeb-II 3.1 Demo is a demo version of AWeb with limited features. The demo is available from Aminet in the biz/demo directory as AWeb.lha (613k). Note that this also requires the latest version of ClassAct. The required ClassAct files are available either from AmiTrix (206k), or you can download the complete ClassAct archive from Aminet (589k) or via ftp from ftp://ftp.thule.no/pub/classact in Europe.
